FAQ Questions

What if I do not have a smartphone?

- Don’t sweat it! Athens Watchdawg realizes that not everyone has access to smartphone technology. That’s why we’ve decided to partner with local schools, businesses, and organizations in the Athens community to hold educational seminars on personal safety and self-defense. In addition, we are planning to hold tutorial app seminars for incoming freshmen during the first week of the fall 2014 semester.

What makes Athens Watchdawg from different safety apps on the market?

- One of the apps’ most unique features is its dual password capability. In panic mode, the user has the option to use two different passwords. One password deactivates the alarm and light and notifies the app that everything’s ok. The other deactivates the alarm and light too, but contacts the police. The latter option is useful when needing immediate help, but being threatened by an assaulter to turn off the alarm and flashlight.

Why is using Athens Watchdawg better than talking on the telephone or carrying mace while traveling?

-Making a phone call distracts you from being 100% aware of what is going on around you, and may make you an easier target. Mace can be cumbersome to carry, and many people do not know how to use mace correctly. When using Athens Watchdawg, you are able to use a device that you are familiar with and carry around regularly, and can still be aware of your surroundings.

Can I just program 911 as an emergency contact?

-No, because of liability issues the police cannot be contacted directly. It is important to notify those you list as emergency contacts of their role, so they can contact the police immediately.

What if I accidentally press the button?

-To avoid this problem you will not alert anyone by the simple press of a button but rather by holding the button down for a given amount of time (long enough to realize if you are consistently pressing something on your phone) and un-pressing it when you would like to notify your emergency contacts.

Why should men download the Athens Watchdawg app?

-Men should download our app as well, even though they may not feel “scared” while walking alone, they may need it when they are overwhelmed by multiple attackers rather. Men should also encourage their female loved ones to get the app, such as sisters, girlfriends, mothers, even friends, so they can rest assured that they are safe when alone!

Very infrequently do I feel unsafe when walking at night and the few times I am a little nervous, lets be real, whats the chance that something happens to me that makes it worth my while to download this app and set everything up.

-Athens Watchdawg only takes a few minutes to download and set up.  You will be in your basic information and emergency contacts and then you will be prepared to be safe at ALL times, no matter how often you feel safe without it.
